Wicked beasts within

Cor Blimey g'vner. I was shown this video tday and i thought my jaw may have to be stuck back on with staples. What makes it so groin grabbingly awesome though is that its all done in after effects.
nothing fancy like maya or such other jibba jabba. After Effects.
Some beautiful uses of Color, Tone and pacing. but enough from me. watch you fools!

The Lord Mayor

This special blog post is dedicated to the lord mayor of London Boris Johnson.
Boris, pictured here with two of his seventeen mistresses

is the current Lord Mayor Of London, a post he attained by being quite possibly the most English man in the world.
According to BBC news http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8340865.stm

Boris saw a young woman with a camra being attacked by a bunch of viscous young she wolves in adidass clothing. And like any man with a degree in Latin and English pollatics he picked up a metal pipe and tore after the malicious vixens Canterbury style on his bike shouting like the house of commons on drunken friday. After slakeing his thirst of manly Lord Mayorly duties,
he then walked the young woman home.

(we can assume she is carrying his love child as i type.)
And to top it off, she didn't even vote for him. I'd like to say i feel a little safer on those cold, dark Autumn nights that i know that fighting against the horde of oiks and yobbo's there is Boris. Rearing his bicycle like John Wayne, swinging a hell-bard with teh English flag as a cape. Dispensing justice and swearing in Latin.
I mean really. I'd think twice about attacking young film makers if i saw this guy hurtalling towards me.

One fantastic fox.

Two movie reviews in one day! i hear you gasp? say it aint so.
Well as a slight surprise got to go and see Fantastic mr fox. directed by Wes Anderson.
Now Mr Anderson has made a good living for himself making very charming films.
And Fantastic mr fox has to be his most charming. Its the best way to describe it.
Dont get me wrong. i was worried, Roald Dahl stories are quintesentialy English. and here
comes a yank with a mostly American cast.
But yknow what? i forgive him. cos he's Wes Anderson and this is a charming film.
The story of a whiely Mr Fox wanting to outsmart three farmers to feed his family.
There's much more to it than that i assure you, but I'll leave it to you to find out by going to watch the film. which you will.
The animation is top notch. You suspend disbelief as you do with most animated films. But the animation is slightly more rickety than the likes of corps bride. This was another of Wes's ideas. and you know, it works. yes the smoke is cotton wool. yes the fur moves about as the animals faces move. but that just makes it all the more attractive. + no CG. not one bit. 100% animated puppets. Beautiful.
the voice talent is top notch. with
George looney
Bill Murray
Meryl Streep
Adrien Brody
Owen Wilson
Willem Dafoe
Jason Schwartzman

Michael Gambon
(my favorite)
Brian Cox
and
Anjelica Huston

all giving starling performances. And a fantastic appearance of Jarvis Cocker as Pete. the man with the banjo.
I'm not really one to leap to celebrity voices in animated films. most of them don't fit and I would rather they leave it to the professionals. and Clancy Brown.
But here they all suit the character designs. which are by the way very cool.
There are some odd moments. things that don't quite make sense. But unlike most kids films scenes don't feel labored or uncomfortable. This film is more Iron Giant than shrek 3.
Still. I'ff you're not won over by it then I'm just going to have to beat you with a sack full of
river pebbles until you're eyeballs fall out.

zombieland. a spoiler free Review.

Zombieland is pretty much a ronseal movie. it does what it says on the tin.
Watch the traler and thats what youre gonna get. like it? go and see it. its a barrel of squeamish laughs. dont like the look of it? you wont like it. trust me.

The film does something interesting, it just kind of assumes you already know the whole zombie deal. Youve seen the films and there are some nice references to the games. It starts out and explains little. More info is given but its not really important about the whole zombie apocalypse. One nice joke is that the plague was started in America by some guy eating a infected hamburger. The plot's hardly there so its up to the four characters to hold you're attention. There's the nerdy guy. Aimed at reeling in the nerdy shut ins that will watch this kind of film. is like Scrub's JD, the sort of loveable looser thats pretty common in films today. he's countered by Woody Harelson's obnoxios and actually rather charming psychopath. There's lots of times when natural born killers comes to mind. but without the moral ambiguity. yknow. cos he's killing zombies. then theres the hot girl and her little sister. Who to me just feel like window dressing and are really there just to hijack what could have been quite a good buddy movie with the two guys.
The violence is that sort of Shogun Assassin extreme. buckets of blood. but then that's what people watch this stuff for.
There are some nice gags. but its pretty hit and miss.
The film feels like its trying to do an American Sean of the Dead.
American life on mars and the American Spaced failed.
this film doesn't fail, but it just doesn't have that English charm when it comes to mixin horror and comedy.
watch it for the fantastic cameo. the clowns and a few scrubs esk jokes.

In a nutshell? "What if DR Cox and JD went on a road trip through zombie infested America."

I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

Whilst waiting for some programs to load. and then fail terribly. The horror, the horror.
I got the strange urge to draw guys from The Vietnam war. mostly trying out a new way o drawing. gotta stop indulging with drawing surly scarred men. its frightening the neighbors.

Somebody think of the children!

This video was posted on cracked. Around 40 seconds is possibly one of the scaryest moments in animation. And there are a lot out there. Watership down being one of them. Who's idea was it to give the clown the voice of pinhead? hmm? hmmm?
